ULTRASOUND-GUIDED PROCEDURES

More Precise And Effective Procedures

Targeting the precise location

Ultrasound-guided procedures are used to safely, effectively and accurately treat musculoskeletal conditions. This non-surgical option for pain relief and healing is performed at an office visit with little to no discomfort. Using a diagnostic ultrasound, we can identify the targeted area and find the optimal location for injection. Using live ultrasound during an injection allows us to accurately target the area and avoid surrounding tissues.

Examples Of Ultrasound-Guided Procedures

  • Ultrasound-Guided Joint Injection – Using ultrasound, we can evaluate and treat your condition. Using images produced through the use of diagnostic ultrasound, we can often see muscle and tendon injuries that are not immediately obvious with MRI. By using the ultrasound images, we can provide ultrasound-guided injections allowing us to target the area of injury or pain directly.
  • Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) – Ultrasound allows us to accurately extract and apply Platelet Rich Plasma directly to the injury area. Since plasma replacement therapy can effectively provide joint pain relief and promote healing in common injuries, accurate placement of the injection will be more effective.

Why Use Ultrasound-Guided Procedures

Depending on your symptoms and area of pain, we may recommend an ultrasound-guided injection consisting of pain medications, anesthetic or anti-inflammatory medication to relieve your pain and assist in mobility.

Patients often opt for ultrasound-guided procedures to relieve pain and other symptoms associated with musculoskeletal conditions. The non-surgical procedure is safe and effective and offers a much faster healing time than surgical intervention.

Benefits of Ultrasound-Guided Procedures And Injections

  • Musculoskeletal ultrasound can provide better images than an MRI and be used while performing the procedure.
  • Ultrasound is safe for everyone since there is no radiation and no medication necessary to retrieve the images.
  • Performing musculoskeletal ultrasound is possible while a person is moving, which is beneficial since there are occasions when someone only feels discomfort when moving in a particular way. Since the MRI requires the patient to remain completely still, it can’t be used in the same way.
  • The musculoskeletal ultrasound can increase the accuracy of needle procedures because, with ultrasound, you can see the needle under the skin and guide it to the exact area of injury.
  • One image can provide an entire picture because we can follow a structure throughout the body and prevents the patient from needing to have multiple scans completed or a physician from not getting the entire picture.
